PDP Crisis: We’ve Resolved Issues, Secondus To Remain Chairman Till October – Tambuwal
Uche Secondus will remain as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) till October 2021 following the resolution of the crisis threatening the party, Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, has disclosed.
Governor Tambuwal, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, announced this to journalists after a closed-door meeting of the party stakeholders in Abuja.
An emergency meeting of the joint committees of the party’s board of trustees was convened on Tuesday following the internal crisis rocking the main opposition party.
Some party members and stakeholders, including the PDP caucus of the House of Representatives, had called on Secondus to resign his position as party chairman following the gale of defections and the internal squabbles affecting various state chapters of the party.
Secondus, however, insisted that he would stay on and complete his tenure , prompting the emergency meeting.
Speaking on the internal crisis in the party, Tambuwal said the members have agreed to work together.
The governor also disclosed that the party’s national convention scheduled for December has been brought forward to October, when Secondus will formally step down after his successor has been elected.
“We are very happy to announce that we have discussed all matters and we have resolved to continue to work as a united family,” he said.
The PDP governors and stakeholders of the party met for several hours on Monday, after which they reconvened on Tuesday.
The 13 state governors elected on the platform of the party, members of the national assembly, former ministers, former senate presidents, former governors, and other party stakeholders were present during the talks on Tuesday.
